ESSENTIAL OIL OVERVIEW: Isn’t the word “lime” just great to say? For the distilled lime oil, the whole fruit is utilized, not just the peel. Unlike other citrus oils, the photosensitization of distilled lime is not nearly as intense, tho still wear/use in sunlight with caution. It is an excellent oil to have near during nasty colds and flus–it could potentially soothe symptoms if you drop a few drops into your diffuser. Also wonderful to utilize in a household cleansing solution. I mixed lime, lemon, lemongrass, rosemary, and a few other oils to create a bathtub cleanser, so that I can ritually clean the bath before submerging myself in a soak. Noted as a “yin” oil, in the Gritman Guide to Essential Oils, this means lime can inspire calm and slowness. Read below for lime magic.

LIME MAGIC: I work PT as a bartender, and one of my opening tasks is to slice all the fruit we use for cocktail garnishes. I always save the lime for last, bc it gives me such pleasure as I transition from the quiet tasks of opening into the boisterous crafting and slinging of cocktails for a few hours. Here’s the drip: most citrus oils, like lemon and sweet orange and grapefruit, we associate with high energy, optimism, light, and productivity. Lime contains these energies, I believe, but it also inspires a deep sense of calm. Vacation mode. The balance of joyous activity and easeful movement alongside rest and relaxation. Lime wants to usher you into the deep yet simple moments of life. The experience of lime is truly like sitting on a beach all day sipping delicious drinks and listening to waves crash–and then getting dolled up to go to some beachy bars all night. It’s a catalyst for you to combat the voices of capitalistic oppressive perfectionism and constant productivity, and simply let yourself be and notice the indescribable, decadent, queer, gorgeous world around you. Give yourself over to lime–they’ll show you a good time AND bring serenity to your nervous system. <3

PLANT AT THE PARTY: Lime is always wearing some variation of a loud floral-printed shirt, usually unbuttoned. They are gentle and serene, tho thrive in the bustling and shouty party atmosphere. They give the best, long hugs and will reach for you and croon to the music while holding you in their arms. It feels like being on vacation when you talk to/interact with lime. They just ~feel good~ to be around. They hang out with lemon a lot, and balance lemon’s sweet, unwavering optimism with their own gentle idealism. Lime def brings the special brownies to the party–they’ve already eaten one by the time they get there, so they’re feeling good and silly. They giggle a lot. It’s a quiet giggle, like soft wind chimes. They are very cute and thus many have crushes on them. Jasmine is always saddling up to lime and whispering in their ear. You can often find lime snug in a corner during the party, giggling with another plant and having sweet, simple yet impactful conversations. They are a VIP party member because they bring the chill vibe, almost always able to break tension and keep the party going. They bring the “don’t worry, be happy” energy ALWAYS.

LIME AND THE HOLY FAM: To me, lime is big Joseph energy. Sweet, simple, and supportive. The smell of lime inspired a moment in my imagination between Mary and Joseph: Mary is feeling frantic about a bunch of herbal orders she has received. (Mary is the town herbalist, obv.) Joseph takes in the scene of chaos in Mary’s greenhouse and quietly brings a bluetooth speaker into the space. They switch on Ariana Grande, Mary’s fav. Mary turns to Joseph, first looking at him exasperatedly, but then slowly, sinks into a smile. Her shoulders drop. She falls into his open arms and receives a long, soft hug. They sway for a bit, and then Joseph whispers “let me pack us a picnic. Spend an hour outside and eat with me, love.” They end up spending three hours. And all of Mary’s orders get pushed–and fulfilled–to the next day. <3
